Aberdeen manager Alex Miller made only one change to the side which lost to Celtic on Monday night, Joe Miller returning to the team with David Rowson dropping to the bench.

The home side started on the attack and had their first effort on goal in six minutes when a diving header by Miller was delt with easily by Gottskalksson. Two minutes later, though, the Hibs keeper was motionless as Stephen Glass' shot flew past him and crashed off the crossbar.

Hibs then started to get into the game but failed to trouble Dons keeper Jim Leighton.

Aberdeen's Joe Miller took on his namesake Willie before finding some space but spoilt the move by shooting well over. At the other end Gary Smith did well to block an attempted effort by Barry Lavety.

Hibs striker Crawford then collected a good pass from Harper but his shot fell over the bar. Leighton was then made to make his first save of the match when he stopped an effort from Lavety.

Mike Newell grabbed his first goal of the season after 40 minutes and put Aberdeen one up against struggling Hibs.

The Dons continued to put pressure on the Hibs defence and keeper Gottskalkson did well to block efforts from Glass and Jess.

However, Aberdeen finally got the goal they deserved after 40 minutes. Stephen Glass crossed low from the left and Mike Newell did well to turn in the box and stab the ball home for his first strike at Pittodrie this season.

The Dons continued on the attack after the break, and might have gone two up had Newell not unselfishly squared the ball inside the box instead of going all the way himself.

Aberdeen then effectively wrapped up the points with two quick goals. The first came in 57 minutes when a Kiriakov free-kick was flicked on by Glass, then Eion Jess ran into the box before firing past Gottskalksson.

Two minutes later it was 3-0. Michael O'Neill fed the ball through to Joe Miller and although the Hibs keeper came rushing out to try and block the attack the ball fell nicely for Miller to follow up on the goal-line.
