The Edinburgh side took the lead after 7 minutes when Ryan O' Leary deflected a shot into his own net. The young Dons then suffered a killer blow when Mole scored just on the stroke of half-time.
Neil Cooper made two changes at half-time with Bagshaw and Fraser coming on for Neill and Shields. The changes made some difference as Aberdeen competed better after the break and Bagshaw was unlucky with an effort that hit the post. Defeat however was confirmed when Mole grabbed his second of the afternoon and Hearts third with three minutes to go.
