A physical Inverness side out muscled the Dons during the early exchanges as both sides struggled to come to terms with the conditions. The home side were missing captain Andrew Considine who has been drafted into the injury hit first team squad for the trip to Kilmarnock and it showed midway through the first half when a mistake from stand in skipper O'Leary let in former Don Rory McAllister who beat schoolboy keeper Russell Omond for the first goal.
The goal seemed to wake up Neil Cooper's charges and they began to take control. Caley keeper Smith pulled off two fantastic saves to keep Aberdeen at bay. Just before half time the weather worsened and the referee had to be replaced by one of his assistants due to injury. As the snow continued to be blown into the faces of players, officials and spectators alike the stand in ref blew for half time.
The young Dons seem to sit back after taking the lead and allowed Inverness more and more possession. Good work from Sutherland created space for Jarvie to score the visitors equaliser but questions will be asked in the home dressing room about the space and time the highlander had to score.
Inverness was not finished however and it was Rory McAllister who punished his former club when he scored the winner and his second of the game in the 84th minute.
Aberdeen continued to press for the equaliser but despite some good work from substitute Shields the visitors held out for the win.
