Dons ease into Final

Aberdeen beat Deveronvale 3-0 in Banff tonight to reach the final of the bmi Aberdeenshire Cup. The game also saw new boy Fernando Pasquinelli make his Dons debut. The Argentinean did well despite his lack of match action. He had some nice touches and the watching Jimmy Calderwood will have been pleased with his efforts as he played for an hour.

Deveronvale started the better of the two teams and were unlucky not to take the lead. They hit the post and Ryan Esson was also forced to make a great save in the early stages. However the Highland league side were made to pay for not taking their chances when the Dons grabbed the lead in the 15th minute. The goal came from a free kick after striker Pasquinelli was brought down. Richard Foster played the ball in and John Stewart headed his cross home brilliantly. The goal gave Aberdeen confidence and they started to take control of the game and were creating plenty of chances. Pasquinelli almost capped his debut with a goal late in the first half but miss timed his shot.

After the interval the young Dons took complete control of the game and it was no surprise when they added a second. Scott Muirhead played the ball along the ground for Stewart to net his second. The third goal came five minutes from time. Muirhead was the creator as he found Foster who fired home a fine effort into the top corner. After the game Neil Cooper spoke with Redweb "I am very pleased with the boys performance. We did not start well but eventually came into the game and scored three great goals. A lot of the boys played on Monday night so they deserve a lot of credit for their effort.

"Fernando did well - he had some nice touches and looks a good experienced player. At the end of the game we had four U19 lads playing in defence - I was especially pleased with their efforts as they hardly gave the opposition a chance in the second half."

Aberdeen now face Fraserburgh in the final.
