Haveman lined up in midfield with Clark, Demspey and Adams. Mendy played up front with Smith in a 4-4-2 formation.
The Dons only decent chance of the first half fell to Andrew Considine but he could only head Derek Adams free-kick over the bar.
At half time Calderwood made two changes, Esson replaced Langfield in goal and John Stewart took over from Smith up front.
The young striker almost got the Dons back in the game. On 66 minutes he picked the ball up and had a good run towards goal, only to be brought down in the penalty box. Despite it looking a stone wall spot kick the referee waved play on.
Esson made a good save on 72 minutes at his near post but Emmen got a deserved second and put the game beyond the Reds when Wolters scored with six minutes remaining. Chris Clark had one final effort for the Dons but he blasted over (87 mins)
Jimmy Calderwood will be desperately hoping he can now get some of his injured stars back for the games at the weekend.
