Dons Disappoint in Defeat

With 9 first team regulars out Jimmy Calderwood had to select another makeshift side. Youngster Kyle Macaulay played at right back with Scott Muirhead in the left back position. Russell Anderson was partnered in central defence by Andrew Considine. Both trialists were given a start - again highlighting just how bad the injury situation is.

Haveman lined up in midfield with Clark, Demspey and Adams. Mendy played up front with Smith in a 4-4-2 formation.

Sergio van Dijkgave gave Emmen the lead on 7 minutes after being set up by Tieltjes. Emmen dominated the first half and only the woodwork stopped them adding to their lead. They hit the bar and were unlucky when a shot hit the post, went along the goal line, hit the other post before being cleared.

The Dons only decent chance of the first half fell to Andrew Considine but he could only head Derek Adams free-kick over the bar.

At half time Calderwood made two changes, Esson replaced Langfield in goal and John Stewart took over from Smith up front.

The young striker almost got the Dons back in the game. On 66 minutes he picked the ball up and had a good run towards goal, only to be brought down in the penalty box. Despite it looking a stone wall spot kick the referee waved play on.

In the second half there was a greater urgency in the Dons play however they created few chances. Although Mendy had some nice touches, the lack of a recognized frontline meant Aberdeen has now failed to score in three of their four pre-season games in Holland.

Esson made a good save on 72 minutes at his near post but Emmen got a deserved second and put the game beyond the Reds when Wolters scored with six minutes remaining. Chris Clark had one final effort for the Dons but he blasted over (87 mins)

Jimmy Calderwood will be desperately hoping he can now get some of his injured stars back for the games at the weekend.
