Aberdeen made a stunning start to tonight's reserve match against Hearts. With only 9 minutes on the clock John Stewart opened the scoring. Muirhead made a penetrating run down the left and found the young striker at the far post. Stewart rose and headed the ball across the face of the goal and into the far corner of the net. The same player then doubled the Dons advantage three minutes later when Muirhead again provided the cross. Craig had his initial shot blocked, but Stewart followed up to tap the ball into the net.
Aberdeen should have added a third in the 28th minute when Stewart broke into the box, but had a double effort blocked. The ball then broke to Bagshaw and he delayed before Craig eventually hit a weak effort straight at the keeper. With three minutes remaining of the first half Craig went close again with some delightful play. He cut past two players on the left and shot inches wide.
Hearts started to increase the pressure, but Considine and Donald stood up well to the physical threat. At the other end Stewart had a chance to complete his hat trick but had his effort blocked and Kiely was inches from connecting with a Macaulay cross. For all their pressure in the second half, Hearts only came close to levelling in the 80th minute when Langfield turned a Neil shot over the top after the Hearts man found room on the edge of the box.
