Dons title hopes buried by United late blitz

Aberdeen's reserve team's SPL title chance all but disappeared after the young Dons squandered a two goal advantage to end up being comfortably beaten by their United counterparts who found the net four times after the break in a high scoring encounter at Links Park. After a quiet opening period, Aberdeen went in front in the 26th minute when Darren Mackie found John STEWART with a defence splitting header and the striker made no mistake, beating Euan McLean from fifteen yards.

Nine minutes later David Donald sent Chris Maguire clear and although his effort was parried by McLean, STEWART was on hand to knock home the rebound.

A minute from the interval a long Paul Ritchie ball was collected by Martin Skinner who misjudged his passback, allowing David GOODWILLIE to pounce and give Ryan Esson no chance. A minute after the restart United were level when Robbie FEENEY sent in what appeared to be a cross that sailed high into the net. United took control of the game and further goals followed from William EASTON (63 and 80 minutes) and GOODWILLIE (75). However there was still time for STEWART to complete his hat-trick with six minutes remaining when he sent a low shot into the net from a Kyle Macaulay through ball.
