Late strike maintains Dons unbeaten record

A last gasp leveller from substitute Brian Neill saw the young Dons maintain their unbeaten record with a fighting performance at East End Park against a Pars side that contained former Dons Scott Morrison and Scott Muirhead.

The visitors received a setback after just three minutes when Dan Smith went over his ankle and was replaced by Neill. Four minutes later, a corner from the substitute was flicked on by Dyron Daal at the near post for defender Kenny Haswell to sweep the ball home from close range.

Midway through the first half, Andy Bagshaw scorned an opportunity to double the Dons advantage when he shot wide after good work from Chris Maguire and Daal. At the other end, Derek Soutar pulled off excellent saves from Ian Williamson and Andy Tod before Athletic levelled in the 38th minute when a cross from the right was converted by Williamson from close range.

With twelve minutes remaining, Pars substitute Callum Smith fired home from close range. That looked to have won it for the home side but right at the death Neil McVitie crossed from the right for Kyle Macaulay. The ball broke to Neill who tapped in from close range for a deserved equaliser.
