It took a strong Aberdeen team, including Karim Touzani, Zander Diamond, Andrew Considine and Mackie, just twenty minutes to go in front when a Jamie Winter cross from the right was headed home by Michael PATON.
Twelve minutes later, MACKIE opened his account with a crisp finish from close range and in the 37th minute, the in-form striker made it three when he latched on to a Touzani through ball before clinically dispatching the ball past Jonathon Smith.
The visitors pulled one back within three minutes of the restart when ex-Don Dennis WYNESS took advantage of a slip by Zander Diamond to fire the ball beyond Derek Soutar.
Mackie then turned from goal scorer to goal provider in the 56th minute when he set up Chris MAGUIRE who finished with aplomb to make it 4-1.
Kyle Macaulay missed a great chance to extend the Dons advantage when he shot straight at Smith but number five did arrive twelve minutes from time when Maguire returned the compliment to let in MACKIE, who rounded Smith before stroking the ball home.
With four minutes to go another former Pittodrie man, Rory McALLISTER, completed the scoring when he dispossessed substitute Andy Bagshaw before giving Soutar no chance with a good finish.
