The game burst into life after the interval when Aberdeen went ahead in the 46th minute. A long ball from McVitie was collected by Paton, who rounded the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the net. Unfortunately the Dons only held the advantage for a minute when NcAusland levelled from a corner kick.
Aberdeen regained the lead in the 57th minute when Andrew Bagshaw, playing his first match of the season, turned in a Smith cross after McVitie had released the youngster. Once again the Dons conceded a quick equaliser when McGinn scored within two minutes of the restart. McLachlin then fired in the winner with only seven minutes remaining. Substitute Strachan went close to levelling with a 20 yard effort, but the young Dons were left rueing missed chances as they suffered a second straight defeat.
