This game turned decisively after 21 minutes when Buaben was given a straight red card for a tackle on Chris Maguire. Aberdeen then started to take control and started utlising the extra man but they did not break the deadlock until just before the hour mark when a Foster cross was met by Carroll whose powerful header found the net. Despite having the extra man, Aberdeen did not have it all their own way and Bateman produced a number of stunning saves. On 77 minutes though, Aberdeen got their second. A mazy run from Foster down the right left him in space and his cross found Carroll who finished well to grab his second of the afternoon.
