Although this
was billed as
a friendly,
Inverness
were keen to avenge their Scottish Cup season, and certainly made the more
lively start. Although the Aberdeen were under
pressure for periods of the
game, it was a source of
disappointment that they
could only muster one shot
on target in the game. It
was the return of Inverness
striker lain Stewart that
proved decisive as the Caley Thistle man scored the only goal of the game after
56 minutes. He will probably never score an easier goal as
he headed home after a Tokley cross deceived Preece in
the Aberdeen goal and came back of the crossbar.
Robbie Winters and David Rowson both scorned easy
chances in the first half, and Jess and Zerouali also missed
further openings in the second. Former Don Dennis
Wyness was unlucky after 76 minutes when his shot crashed off the bar, but
it was a source of concern for Ebbe
Skovdahl that
his makeshift
defence
struggled
against the
lively
Inverness
forwards.
Aberdeen's problems were compounded with the loss of Russell
Anderson, who limped off after 15 minutes, to be
replaced by young Kevin Rutkiewicz.
