Aberdeen Win Again

Commencing in brilliant sunshine, the game at Pittodrie, in which Aberdeen defeated Albion Rovers by 2 goals to 1, ended in a hailstorm. There were 7000 spectators, and these were treated to quite an interesting display, in which the play of the home side was rather flattered by the result. Watson, the Aberdeen outside left, almost dribbled through at the outset, and clever individual work by Archibald caused King to handle at the home end. Following upon a run by Wylie, whose centre Longmuir just failed to utilise, the Rovers commenced a long spell of pressure, and the home defence was repeatedly in difficulties. Following a mix-up, Anderson hit the bottom of the upright with King Helpless. Maintaining the attack, the Rovers forwards repeatedly looked like counting. Duffus blocked a shot from Wilson that must have found the net, and the home goalkeeper, after failing to field a high centre from Mennie, just recovered in time. Watson and Wylie raised the siege for Aberdeen, and after Sloan had saved from Duffus, he was lucky to block a fast ground shot from Charnley. Subsequently the visitors failed to improve upon their outfield tricking, and, although play was always near him, the home goalkeeper was not seriously tested. From a break-away and cross by Watson, Wylie scored for Aberdeen, and the lead was increased when Hannah converted a penalty after Longmuir had been fouled.

Shortly after the resumption, Hillhouse headed past King from a centre by Mennie. Aberdeen improved after this, and the goalkeeper was applauded when he tipped a terrific shot from Walker - the best of the match - over the bar. The visiting forwards continued to show wonderful trickery, but they lost many valuable chances by lack of shooting ability. With the gale behind them, in the closing stages, Aberdeen were the aggressors, but they failed to improve their position.
