Aberdeen 2 - 2 Dundee

Hannah's benefit at Pittodrie before 6000 people. A gale of wind spoilt the play, in which both defences excelled. Wiseman scored for Aberdeen after thirty minutes, and Rait headed through his own goal, Aberdeen leading by two-nothing at the interval. In the second half mistakes by Sutherland, the home goalkeeper, allowed Troup and D. Brown to score.

In a gale of wind, Aberdeen and Dundee had a drawn game of two goals each at Pittodrie last night. The match was for the benefit of Robert Hannah, the right back of the home club, and there were fully 5000 spectators. The game was spoiled by the wind, and while there was little of the spectacular element, there was much clever work on the part of both defences when in turn they had to face the gale. On the run of the game Aberdeen were by no means flattered by the result, and but for two rather unfortunate and fatal mistakes by the home goalkeeper, a local junior who had previously shown up well in a trial game on the ground, Aberdeen must have won by the lead of 2-0 which they had established at the end of the first half. The conditions were all against good football, and while the game was not without its interesting passages, there was not a great deal to enthuse over, and obviously a certain of the players were keeping themselves in reserve for more serious occasions when League points will be at stake.

Dundee were a well-set-up, young team, heavy and sound in defence but not too well balanced forward, since in that division there were included one or two new players on trial. The rear divisions were robust and accurate, and the specially so in the first half, when they were facing the gale, they got through a tremendous amount of work, and came well out of the ordeal. Apart from the goalkeeper, the home defence was again the strongest part of the team, and both with and against the elements they showed two advantage, and it was mainly owing to their work that the home side were the aggressors for the greater period of the game. The forwards played a keen, hustling game, but they did not strike it off too happily together, although, had it not been for the fine goal keeping of Capper, they must've had more goals to their credit. Wiseman opened the scoring for Aberdeen after 30 minutes, giving Capper no chance from a centre by Wylie. Before the interval Rait, in heading a high effort from Wright, deflected the ball through his own goal, and Aberdeen crossed over with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half both defences were kept busy, but the Dundee goalkeeper, with shots from right, Brewster, Wiseman, Wilson, and Yule, had the more difficult shots to deal with. After 30 minutes Troup scored from near the touch-line for Dundee, the home goalkeeper allowing the ball to go through his hands. The equalising goal came 3 minutes from the end, when Sutherland failed to get away a long ground shot from Nichol, and D brown, following up, netted in easy fashion. On the home side the backs and half-backs played superbly, and the outstanding forwards were Wiseman, Wilson, and Yule. Dundee were best served by Capper, Rait, and Fleming, the backs; MacDonald and Nicol, half-backs, and D. Brown and Troup, forward.
