'Keeper and Backs Shaky under Pressure

WHILE Aberdeen finished with a comfortable two-goal lead in the Dewar Shield final, first game, at Falkirk last night, they were anything but convincing in securing it.

In fact, the Dons' lead was almost reduced to one in the last five minutes, for the home side failed on a penalty award, the second the Dons had conceded in the game.
On the first occasion, while mcKenna undoubtedly spilled the home winger, Japp, as he wasgoing in on goal, he played the ball and actually put it past for what should have been a corner.
On the second occasion Martin had run out to kick a loose ball when Japp, running on to the ball and getting full force of the kick, was toppled to the ground.
Martin was anything but a safe keeper when the ball was coming low. Emery failed to subdue Gardiner, and McKenna, particularly in the first half when Japp was getting good service, was undoubtedly in trouble.
Waddell, too, was not impressive against Silcock, who repeatedly beat him to the ball.

Crafty Pearson

Up front, the heady play and accurate parting with the ball by Tommy Pearson and the hard work of Yorston and Rodger produced the necessary scoring opportunities to gain their winning lead. Glen too, paid his way. Stenhouse was never happy on the right wing.
A cracking goal from Yorston after only eight minutes' play, when he nipped in to take advantage of home defence slackness, perhaps gave the Dons superior ideas.
These, however, were dispelled before the interval, as the 'Shire deservedly equalised through Curran's penalty effort.
In the second half the home side had the better of the exchanges, but superior stamina began to tell, and Rodger bustled on the leading goal in a close-in action.
He neatly glided home a third off a Pearson cross after the left winger had worked over to the right wing and outwitted the Shire defenders.
