SCRATCH LOT SURPRISED DONS
East File, with five new players. substitutes for regulars on service duties, surprised with a fine display. They kept Aberdeen on the grill, and when Haldane walked the ball into the net the goal was overdue.
Aberdeen repeatedly found themselves, by dint of fine outfield work, in front of Niven. But their finishing was weak.
In the second half the Fifers slowed down a bit, and Aberdeen were more in the picture. Steele, their most dangerous forward, got his reward to square accounts.
Both sides fought keenly tor the winning goal, with the Fifers unluckiest. Mudie had two great last-minute efforts.
On the balance, with a nondescript team, East File had the honours. Outstanding for them were Wilkie, Haldane, Sneddon, and Brown (Falkirk). Aberdeen were best served by Steele, Dyer, Thomson, and Cooper.
