Aberdeen 3 - 2 Dunfermline Athletic

The Dons have set themselves a tricky task at East End Park on Saturday in the North-Eastern League Cup competition. They could only register a single goal lead at Pittodrie and this is all too slender an advantage on Saturday's form. The Aberdeen players had every opportunity to make the issue secure, but the forwards failed to turn a territorial advantage into goals. One up at the interval, Aberdeen forced Dunfermline on the defensive in the second half, but all their pressure produce in twenty-five minutes was a solitary goal. Then in breakaways the Fifers scored twice, and the Dons had to fight to regain the lead.

Fifers Lively Attack

A lively Dunfermline attack gave the Pittodrie defence a good deal of trouble. Both Kinnear and Christie, particularly the former, were dangerous. Aberdeen's forwards were overanxious. Of the five only Dyer looked dangerous. The defence, too, was erratic. Lyon was most reliable in the rear division. Thirty three minutes after the start Dawson handled outside the penalty area and Lyon found the net from the free kick. Twenty three minutes after the interval a clearance by a Dunfermline defender struck an Aberdeen player, and McCall was left with an easy chance to send into the net.

Grand Effort

Shortly after this Kinnear reduced the leeway with a grand individual effort, beating Cooper and Taylor before scoring. Then came a breakaway on the right and Kinnell found the net with a header. Five minutes from the end Bain and Donaldson broke away on the Aberdeen right. The inside forward's cross deceived Hill, who was harassed by a crowd of players and the ball dropped into the net.

Willie Mills, the former Aberdeen player, signalled his return to the Clyde team with a clever display. His side won 4-2 and he claimed one of the goals.
