Dons Trounce Rangers

SINCE the North-Eastern League was started two years ago. Aberdeen and Rangers have met eleven times. Only once in that series have the Rangers defeated the Dons, who won on six occasions, four matches being drawn. Of the six victories over the Ibrox team Saturday's was without doubt the most convincing. The result - 4-1 - did not flatter the Dons, who were superior in all departments.

The football displayed by the Dons was of a high standard throughout, and a fine fighting spirit prevailed during the whole game.
The opening goal by Stan. Mortensen will long be remembered by the 10,000 spectators. Right from the centre of the field he swept past all opposition, and drove the ball into the roof of the net with a velocity which gave the Rangers keeper no chance.
Then Bob Ancell, playing at left back, came up to score a second. Pattillo followed with a third. Rangers were staggered by their 3-0 deficit at the interval that they changed their attack formation, but this made little difference. Pattlllo registered a fourth, and McIntosh got the visitors' only goal.
The Aberdeen defence was at the top of its form. Johnstone was brilliant In goal. Three times he prevented certain goals with full-length saves. Cooper and Ancell at back had a great understanding. They were far ahead of the Rangers pair.
The Aberdeen half-back trio throttled the Rangers attack. Dunlop and Taylor were at their best both in defensive and constructive work. Hiles at centre-half was a success, his headwork being particularly effective.
Mortensen was the outstanding forward afield. Pattillo was lively leader, giving the Ibrox defence no rest. He took his goals well.
The new right wing, Green and Moir, paid its way. Moir crossed several good balls, and Green was a fine forager. Dyer, until hurt impressed at outside left.
Rangers were best served by Jenkins, Woodburn, Marshall, and McIntosh.
