19/08/1905 | KO:

Aberdeen's second string journeyed to Perth to contest for Northern League points with the Saints, who had out a somewhat weak representation for the opening of the season. The teams were - Aberdeen A: Barrett; Willox, Thompson; Davidson, Lowe, Robertson; Harvey, Hilton, McNicol, Cruikshank, Edgar. St Johnstone: Douglas; Turner, Buchan; Cameron, and they, brown; Stewart (Roselea), Ower, D. Gardner, Dewar, Hynd.

The initial stages were lively, and right away the Aberdeen men showed superior work, troubling the home defence to a great degree, although they found in Turner sturdy opposition. The Saints were by no means slow in the attack, and clever manipulation of the leather on the left wing by Hynd almost brought about the downfall of Barrett's citadel. In fact, the sphere was just on the verge of the goal line, and would undoubtedly have gone over had not the whistle sounded for a previous infringement. Play having been transfer to the other end of the pitch, an exciting tussle ensued, in which McNicol and Turner, the home back, figured prominently. The Aberdeen man successfully tackled Turner, and had a clear goal in front, only he tried to make too sure, and in kicking for the corner of the net, missed the mark entirely. A corner at Barrett's end allowed the Saints to get in, and a nicely placed kick from Hynd being guided through by Cameron. A couple of minutes later number two was added through the medium of Ower, who parted in time to D. Gardiner, who, in turn, finished the effort, and gave the custodian no chance to save.

In the second period tame play prevailed for a time, but McNicol got off, and forced a corner. The kick-in lead to a scrimmage of lengthy duration, but it ultimately fell to McNicol's lot to end the strife, and this he did in a manner most satisfactory by touching into the net. Continual pressure by the visitors brought out the equalizer, Henderson, on this occasion, being the happy medium with a punt at close quarters, which sent the sphere home before the custodian was aware of what had happened.
