The Aberdeen A team were at Kirkcaldy playing a northern league match on Saturday. The teams were:-
Kirkcaldy: Dorward; Neilson, Borthwick; Wilkie, Holland, Main; Brown, Wilson, Niblo, Low, Fairlie.
Aberdeen: King; Hannah, Macfarlane; Davidson, Forsyth, Low; Hendry, Towns, Cowan, Roberts, Ritchie.
Referee - Mr. Bertram, Edinburgh.
Kirkcaldy were at full strength, while Aberdeen gave a trial to a Glasgow junior named Hendry at outside right. Kirkcaldy got off, and Wilson crossed. Aberdeen's defence, evidently under the impression that Low and Fairlie were offside, hesitated, but the latter steadied, and completely beat King. This success was gained about 2 minutes from the start. Aberdeen were playing a good game nevertheless, and a fine movement was spoiled in Towns's anxiety to score. A burst away by Brown saw Fairlie get a chance, but he unaccountably missed. Again Aberdeen attacked, but were repelled by Main. Kirkcaldy maintained the pressure, and Fairlie scored a splendid goal. Aberdeen scarcely deserved to be two goals down so early in the game. They played up gamely, but the home halves were too good for them. Fairlie again got off, I and, beating his half, he crossed. Niblo got his head on the ball, and with a deft twist put the ball into the net out of King's reach. The goal came 3 minutes after the previous success. Aberdeen had hard taken out of them after their run of disaster. Kirkcaldy were not long in getting a fourth goal. Main passed well forward, and Niblo, robbing Hannah, passed to Low. The inside left was standing unmarked, and scored with little difficulty, King having no chance to save. Kirkcaldy maintained the upper hand, and Aberdeen were seldom dangerous.
Kirkcaldy some left wing were early in evidence on the restart, and Low got away. He brushed past the backs, and got well down, when he shot. Towns, however, brought off a great save at the expense of a corner, which was cleared. The Aberdeen were struggling hard for goal. Clever work by the whole front line looked as if it would have the desired effect, but Henry stopped progress by getting offside. Coming back, Low swung across a good pass, but main cause Towns to run the ball out. Kirkcaldy next took up the attack, and clever work by Brown saw a melee in front of King. The goalkeeper saved well, but failed to get the ball properly away, and Wilson scored. During the last 20 minutes of the game Kirkcaldy were all over their opponents, and 3 minutes from time Niblo scored the sixth goal from a lovely pass from Fairlie.
