Montrose 3 - 1 Aberdeen

HT Score: Montrose 2 - 0 Aberdeen

Northern League
Aberdeen scorers: Soye.

18/09/1909 | KO:

In this match at Montrose on Saturday Montrose played a surprisingly strong game, and had little difficulty in winning the points. They opened the scoring in 20 minutes, and the visitors shortly afterwards had chance of equalising. Soye missed the penalty kick, however, and before the interval Montrose had a second goal.

In the next period, the home side, though against the wind, still held the upper hand, but only by a penalty kick were the able to increase their lead. The Aberdonian's were seldom dangerous until near the end, when Soye opened a recount. He was in a class by himself in the granite city attack, and got little support from his wings. In the half-back line JJ Simpson and Henderson were the best, the latter improving greatly in the closing stages. The backs had a lot of work to do and did it well. Montrose were strong although over, and their aggressive tactics were in striking contrast to the disjointed display by the Aberdeen halves and forwards.
