HT Score: Kilmarnock 0 - 1 Aberdeen

Northern League

18/12/1909 | KO:

Played at Kilmarnock on Saturday. Teams:-

Kilmarnock: Glover; Armour, Crichton; Alan, W. Johnston, Glass; Ewing, McNeill, Mack, Neil, McAllister.
Aberdeen: King; Hannah, Low; Davidson, Moffat, Henderson; Hay, Scott, McKay, Edgar, Jaffrey.
Referee - Mr. Bloomer, Govan.

Winning the toss, Aberdeen elected to play with a strong sun at their back. In the visitors' initial run McKay was unlucky to get offside just when the forwards had marked into good position. Only 10 minutes had gone when Ewing was carried to the pavilion injured. The Aberdeen extreme wingers made frequent dash is along the line, but their centres were invariably cleared. The Aberdeen forwards were undoubtedly a smarter quintette than the homesters, but they were unable to properly finish many promising runs. Hay on one occasion, however, came very near the mark, the ball running across the top of the crossbar. Killie had a momentary attack, which was luckily stopped by Hannah. Jaffrey returned and centred in front of goal, and McKay had no difficulty in opening the scoring for Aberdeen. On play the point was well deserved. Killie strongly retaliated, and a shot from Glass missed narrowly. Aberdeen's defence were more than a match for Killie's forwards, who were never really dangerous. At the interval Aberdeen led by the only goal of this half.

Kilmarnock resumed with 10 men, but in the first minute King had to save from Glass. A corner kick was not improved on by Aberdeen, who continued to have the best of the exchange's. King, after he and falling when holding the ball, was lucky to clear. Glover had a daring saved from MacKay, who had nobody but the custodian to beat. To Kilmarnock were beginning to improve, and looked like gaining the equaliser.
