The rival reserve teams of Aberdeen and Dundee divided four goals in a Scottish Alliance match at Dens Park before 6000 spectators. Bright weather favoured the game, but under-foot conditions were sodden and apt to play tricks with the players. The homesters kicked off, and opened briskly, Cowan at the outlet having a try for goal, which went wide. Before long, however, Aberdeen took the offensive and after 20 minutes' play Macdonald opened his team's account with a long drive. Dundee A responded with a vigorous attack, and but a minute had elapsed ere they squared matters. Following a corner, Harvey saved a swift shot from Hutchison, but Grieve rushed in and dispossessed him, and the ball rolled into the net. For a time Aberdeen had slightly the better of exchanges, and the slippery ground was partly responsible for their failure to score. From a free kick at long range Wright, who reappeared after a long illness, struck the upright. Yule sent in one or two fine crosses, but these were not utilised. The visitors attacked determinedly, but the home defence was sound, Fleming making several good clearances. A penalty was awarded against him, and Thomson roused the enthusiasm the crowd by stopping a terrific shot by Macdonald and clearing magnificently. Close on the interval McLaren had a fine run, and after a tussle in front of goal Cowan put his team on an equality with a fine shot which bounced off Harvey into the net.
Ritchie Equalises.
The Dundonians resumed briskly and McLaren early tested Harvey, who saved in good style. The home left-winger displayed some clever footwork and amused the spectators with his smart trickery. The vigour of the Aberdonians now waned, and Dundee did most of the pressing. A foul was awarded against Hannah, and for a time the Wasps' goal was in danger. Harvey, however, proved safe. He was, indeed, a daring keeper, and time and again rushed out successfully to meet man and ball. J. Reid was doing a lot of fancy work, which the slippery pitch rendered futile. Following a tussle in front of Dundee's goal Thomson threw himself on the ball. With the custodian prone, Ritchie rushed in and kicked wide. The northern halves strove hard to press the play into the opposition territory, but the forwards were always checked. Hannah allowed himself once or twice to be tricked by J. Reid but the latter's efforts were spoiled by dallying. Macdonald had a fine solo run from midfield, until he met Fleming, who cleared lustily. Aberdeen made a final spurt towards the close, and Ritchie sent in a few beautiful crosses ultimately taking matters into his own hands and driving a lovely shot Into the net, leaving Thomson with no chance. A closely-contested but not a brilliant game resulted in draw.
