By the narrow margin of the solitary goal of the match, Third Lanark "A" put paid to Aberdeen "A's" account in a Scottish Alliance match at Pittodrie before about 4000 spectators. The weather was disagreeable overhead and underfoot, showers of rain falling during the play, and making the ground sodden and stiff to play on. Two East End Juniors in A. McIntosh and J. Cheyne turns out for the Dons, at outside right, and left respectively. The game was refereed by Mr Druburgh, Fife.
For the greater portion of the first half the homesters had slightly the better of the exchanges, but a weakness and hesitation at the goalmouth proved fatal to their chances. Harris, in the Third's goal, stood on several occasions between his side and defeat, and his display was all the more creditable because of the fact that he is a half-back. The Warriors revealed good combination which was lacking in the play of the home brigade. Their goal was well worked for, although it came from a penalty. The whole Third's forward line had a pretty run up the field, and Early's parting effort was fisted away by Blackwell. McCormick got the ball and drove for the net wide of the custodian. Shith saw that the keeper had no chance, and deliberately fisted the ball out. His action was useless, however, as off the resultant spot-kick Kay made no mistake with a swift grounder.
In the second half the Aberdeen forwards made desperate efforts to reduce the leeway, but there was still a lack of cohesion about their play, and Harris dealt confidently with any shots that came his way. He made a magnificent save off a hard drive from Connon, which looke like going all the way, but a pot shot from Cheyne almost caught him napping, the ball bouncing out of his hands and going behind. In the last few minutes the visiting goal was hotly bombarded, but the siege proved of no avail, and the game ended in a win for Thirds by the only goal. The best men on the home side were Blackwell, McBoyle, MacLachlan, and Mackie, while Harris, the two backs, Wilson, Early, and McCormick shone for the Thirds.
