ABERDEEN "A" beat St Johnstone "A" 4-0 at Pittodrie in a game that was singularly lacking in excitement.
The Young Dons combined better and were well worth their win. They led by three goals at the interval, but in the second half, when their opponents were tired and subdued, they could only add once to the score.
In fact, it looked as if there would no scoring at all in the second half.
When the goal did come, however, it was the best of the match. A clever switch between Hay and Pearson finished with the winger racing through the middle to crack the ball into the roof of the net.
Pearson was the brightest player afield, and his partnership with Hay produced some of the best moves of the game.
Rodger, McNeil and Hay scored for Aberdeen in the first half.
Most of the danger in St Johnstone's attack, which did not give the Aberdeen defenders a great deal of trouble, came from Forsyth, inside right.
