Aberdeen 'A' Win At Buckie

By the only goal of the game, Aberdeen A beat Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park in an Aberdeenshire and District League encounter.
In the opening stages Aberdeen had the disadvantage of the sun, and Buckie were the first to attack, notwithstanding the fact that for the first five minutes they were without the services of McIntosh, who was late in arriving. The nimble Buckie lads gave the visitors some trouble, but eventually Aberdeen got going, and the left wing was rather dangerous. Forbes was very keen to open the scoring, and it took the home defence all their time to keep him in check. When Thistle got away they spoiled their efforts by sending the ball too far ahead or the target at the critical moment. It looked as if Buckie would open the scoring, however, when a shot from T. Cowie was tipped up to land on the crossbar. Aberdeen broke away, and Forbes, fastening on to a pass from the left, surprised Wood by hooking the ball into the net. The goal could not have been saved. Occasionally the tactics of the visitors were rather rough, and McIntosh was badly fouled while going strong towards goal. Had Buckie been smarter at the goalmouth they would have crossed over on level terms.
In the second period there was little to choose between the play of the teams. Aberdeen were perhaps the more aggressive, but this only showed up the sterling defence of the homesters. Although a good deal of Aberdeen's shooting was erratic, Wood was called upon to make many saves, and rose to the occasion. Buckie's forward line did not settle down properly, but, for an opening match, they gave a really good display.
