ABERDEEN reserves were given a nasty jolt when Johnstone, from what looked like an off-side position, and when the Aberdeen defence had pulled up, was allowed to carry on and give Hibs the lead at Easter Road on Saturday.
Up to this point - ten minutes after the interval - Aberdeen were as good as the powerful Hibs combine. The sparkle went out of the game, and the final score, 4-1, was no reflection of the slight difference between the teams.
Some of Martin's saves were masterly, especially shots from McDonald and Plumb. Ashe and Merchant stood up well to a couple of fast-raiding wing men, while Thomson kept a good grip on Plumb.
Stenhouse was the intelligent member of the half-back line and his feeding of the forwards was judicious. Smith was the live wire of the forwards, but he was inclined to overdo the individualistic act.
Muir did not get much scope from Aird, but he was not slow in recognising his wing men, who were ever ready to sail into Paterson and Shaw.
Rice was unlucky with a raking shot which crashed against the crossbar. Hibs were panicky under pressure, and Kerr fumbled some of the shots sent at him. Muir's first-half goal was the outcome of a shot from Smith being deflected for a corner.
A pass from McDonald found Plumb unmarked, and that was tne equaliser. After the Johnstone gift Johnstone scored again and Bradley made the scoring all out of proportion to actual play.
