This was an intriguing clash that brought the Youth Cup holders and Youth League Champions. Alas, it was the title winners Hearts that emerged triumphant with a free flowing attacking display that overwhelmed a young Aberdeen side.
The Dons cause was not helped by an early knock that saw Scott Muirhead carried off and replaced by Robert Duncan.
It was Hearts on the attack and winger Paul McMullan was a livewire down the left wing, stretching the Dons defence. He won a corner out on the right and happilly switched to the right wing to cross the ball into Weir who headed home.
Aberdeen came back into the match and Kevin Souter had an excellent game in the Dons midfield, winning tackles and making passes, and young Richard Buckley ws gradually getting to grips with McMullan.
On the hour mark Hearts hit a purple patch and scored three quick goals without reply. McMullan's wicked cross eluded Hutton as King knocked the ball in the back of the net. The Dons kept trying and were rewarded with the goal of the match as a Souter pass allowed Carella to weave his magic and pull the ball back for McHattie to score.
