Scottish Second XI Cup Second Round
Heart of Midlothian scorers: McNeil, Edgar

Aberdeen 'A' Handicapped

At Tynecastle, the reserves of the Heart of Midlothian and Aberdeen met in the second round of the Scottish Second Eleven Cup competition. The Hearts did the bulk of the attacking, but were thwarted time and time again by a clever goalkeeper in McSevich, whose great work saved his side from a heavier defeat. He held out till the second half was well advanced, when McNeil headed home a cross from Edgar, who later got a second goal in a similar manner in dealing with a shot from T. White. Gilfillan, in the Hearts' goal, had an easy time. Middleton was the better of the Hearts' defenders and King the best half. McSevich, Forsyth, and Brackenridge shone for the losers. The attendance would be about 6,000.

Requirements of the first team and a casualty list prevented Aberdeen "A" fielding their full strength against Hearts "A' in the second stage of the Scottish 2nd XI. Cup competition at Tynecastle. A re-arranged side, with Forbes at centre-half, put up a good fight, but in the end had to retire beaten by 2 goals to 0. There was no scoring in the first period, during which Hearts were slightly more aggressive, but McSevich, Muir, and Forsyth offered a stubborn resistance, while Carroll was always ready to lead Aberdeen to the attack. Early in the second half, McNeill put Hearts on the lead. For a time it looked as if Aberdeen would draw level, but in another Hearts' attack Edgar headed a second goal. In the closing stages Aberdeen strove hard, but their forwards were not effective in front of goal. Outstanding for Aberdeen were McSevich, Forsyth, Muir, Ross, and Carroll, and for Hearts, King, Harley, T. White, McNeill and Edgar.
