By a somewhat sensational win at Muirton over St Johnstone A, the Aberdeen reserves have taken third place on the Alliance table. After last week's poor show, and bearing in mind the home lot were composed mostly of first team players it was hardly expected that Aberdeen A would win.
But they did, and all thanks to Yorston. Well into the second half they were down 3-1, even although play was fairly level. Yorston had been the mainspring of the attack and had headed a fine goal, but he was rampant in the closing stages and scored two fine goals to complete his "hat-trick." Then just on time Falloon sent home a great shot and two points were brought back to Pittodrie.
The reserves were none too reassuring, and Blackwell had several anxious moments. The second goal might have been saved, as it was actually deflected into the net by Muir. The two backs were allowed little peace the whole afternoon, but the half-backs were more improved. Falloon, at right half, was here, there, and everywhere against Stevenson and Nicholson, a former first eleven wing, and he made an enterprising little half-back.
The forwards, too, were better, despite the fact that they had a strong defence to beat. Wilson, McFarland, and Yorston played well, if at times the play of the line as a whole was a trifle uncertain. It was a good game, with a most unexpected conclusion.
