Aberdeen 'A' Win

This match was played to mark the opening of Locos' new stand and pavilion and full enclosure of Harlaw Park in 1931. The development of Harlaw Park at this time became possible after the two very successful seasons for Locos in 1928/29, when they more or less "swept the boards," and 1929/30, when they were League runners-up and won the League Cup.
The official opening was originally scheduled for Saturday 7th March 1931 on the same day that Aberdeen were playing Rangers at Pittodrie. Aberdeen requested that Locos play Muldownie in goal and Oliphant at outside-left, presumably to assess their potential. An added attraction was the appearance for Aberdeen of a new outside left from Durham who had been recommended to Pittodrie by ex Don "Billy" Middleton, and Harry Oliphant was also due to play. The teams selected were:

Loco Works: Muldownie, Law, Thoirs, Young, Moir, Beattie, Ross, Gordon, Scott, Daun, Oliphant.

Aberdeen "A": Cummings, Shannon, Robertson, Donald, Christie, Oliphant, Warnock, Paterson, Smith, Burke, Dryden

Referee: M. Fowler of Aberdeen

Unfortunately the match was postponed due to a snowstorm. It was rescheduled for and played on Saturday 21st March 1931. The Locos' centre forward Scott was playing that day for Aberdeenshire against Fifeshire in the Semi-Final of the Scottish Counties Cup at Pittodrie and Ross and Muldownie were unavailable. Locos drafted in two Mannofield Athletic players.
Harry Oliphant was considered the big attraction and centre forward Stewart had just been signed from St. Johnstone. The Aberdeen goalkeeper Cumming had been signed from Hall Russell's, after he had played a blinder the previous season in the Scottish Junior Cup Final at Tynecastle against Newtongrange Star in front of 24,000 (Hall Russell's lost 3-0).
The 'Beattie' in the Locos' side was Andy Beattie who went on to play for Preston North End and Scotland, became Scotland's first national Manager, and who "discovered" Denis Law (with the help of his brother Archie) and signed him for Huddersfield Town.
Mr Hyde (Bailie Hyde), Manager of Inverurie Locomotive Works and Hon. President of the Football Club, performed the opening ceremony which was attended by the Provost and Councillors and 1,500 spectators. It appears to have been a good match which ended in a 3-2 victory for Aberdeen. Oliphant scored two penalty goals for Aberdeen, but the third scorer is unknown. Edwards and Daun scored for Locos.

Loco. Works New Stand Opened.

Aberdeen "A" visited Harlaw Park on Saturday, on the occasion of the opening of Inverurie Loco Works new stand.
The stand was officially opened by Mr. Walker.

The game resulted in a win for Aberdeen A by the odd goal in five.
The juniors put up a plucky display, and thirty minutes had elapsed ere the Pittodrie reserves opened the scoring, through Oliphant, from a penalty.
The Loco Works held their end up, and near the interval equalised through Edwards.
Soon after the resumption Aberdeen A were awarded a penalty, which Oliphant converted and a few minutes later their total was increased to three.
Locos continued to fight back strongly, and reduced the leeway through Daun.
