Weakness at inside forward has had a lot to do with Aberdeen’s poor showings this season, but there was no such failing in the reserve team when they beat East Fife “A” 6-0 at Pittodrie on Saturday.
One player who staked a claim for promotion was the diminutive lan McNeill.
This was undoubtedly McNeill’s match. He worked hard throughout and could always be relied upon produce the unexpected. He scored the first two goals, the second being a really clever effort.
Also outstanding in the Aberdeen attack was Alan Boyd, who had a good understanding with McNeill.
All the home half-backs had a good game and the showing of Fred Cameron at right half was particularly promising. He used the ball well.
Wallace was opposed to Bonthrone, East Fife’s best forward, but acquitted himself well in defence and attack.
The key man of the defence, however, was Alec Young, who was in command in the middle.
