Youngsters show their mettle

An Aberdeen team reinforced by the inclusion of Jess, Booth and Mason outclassed Dundee, particularly in the first half, in their Reserve match last Monday.
Playing into a strong breeze Aberdeen struggled for cohesion in the first 10 minutes but after Jess broke away to score the team played some very attractive football. Stillie had a couple of good saves early in the match which helped settle him and the team. Aberdeen were rampant in that first half scoring 5 goals without reply. Jess had a noteworthy hat-trick and Booth contributed 2 goals.
Strangely the Young Dons did not play so well in the second half with the wind advantage. They eased off, perhaps not surprisingly with a 5-0 lead, and the game was more even. Jess came off at half-time, having had a successful 45 minute canter. Both teams scored once, McAnespie netting Aberdeen's sixth goal in the last minute.
In a competent overall performance, spiced with some clinical finishing, it was satisfying to see Graham Watson and Mason getting sharper and stronger.
Six of the thirteen players who appeared in the match were under 18 years of age, so the future looks rosy.
