Young Dons In Luck
THE Young Dons were fortunate escape with a point on Saturday, when they drew 1-1 against Hearts "A" at Pittodrie.
Both goals were scored during a dreary, uninteresting first half. Gunn netting for Hearts and Kiddie for Aberdeen. Play livened after the interval, but it was Hearts who provided the better touches and most of the goalmouth thrills It was fortunate for Aberdeen that Waddell got in the way of almost certain counters from Gunn and McFarlane. McKeown stopped a Gunn header on the goal-line.
On the other side of the picture Vannet threw away a golden opportunity when he shot past with only the 'keeper to beat.
The Aberdeen attack did not function as a unit. The only signs of combined play came in infrequent flashes from Glen and Kiddie on the left wing.
Stanley Lawson (Hall and Co.), leading the Young Dons' attack, got little support from his inside men. He did have hand, however, in the goal scored by Kiddie, and with better co-operation from his colleagues might have been more dangerous.
On the whole the Aberdeen defence was sound. George Merchant, now recovered from his shoulder injury, put in some good work at right half, and he had a hard-working colleague on the opposite wing in Baikie.
