Two weeks ago the Premier Reserve League fixtures began again after the mid-winter break and several players were thankful to be back in full match action again. A 2-2 draw at Dundee was helped by a goal from Ian Porteous and a Keith Edwards penalty, that proved to be the first of three spot-kicks in the game. A victory for Dons looked well on the cards when Porteous supplied an early lead and more goals seemed likely to emerge from superior attacking. Then, just before half-time, there was a setback when goalkeeper Steve Beckett brought down a Dundee forward and the equaliser came from the spot.
In the second-half Paul Wright was on the receiving end of similar treatment to that handed out by Beckett when the Dundee keeper, Tom Carson, brought him down and Edwards stepped up to supply a 2-1 lead. Despite that one lapse Carson did a fine job for Dundee keeping Dons forwards out when they seemed certain to increase the lead. Carson was back at Dens Park after a trial period at Ipswich where he acquitted himself extremely well.
Dundee's equaliser came near the end when Robert McRobb conceded the third penalty. 'We could and should have won that one,' said coach Teddy Scott. Porteous was among the players who was pleased to start getting match play in again but was unlucky enough to pick up a muscle strain and end up on the physio's couch!
