FIRST TEAM calls in the last two weeks have left us pretty thin on the ground, but the younger players on the staff have turned up trumps with two home wins - 2-1 over Partick Thistle and 4-1 against Morton.
Ian Gibson continues to impress and is maintaining his goal-a-game sequence. His effort against Morton was a particularly good one, as he started and finished the move that brought the goal. When Ian is able to join the other full-timers in pre-season training I reckon it won't be long until he's knocking at the first team door. The absence of Noel Ward on first team duty gave Neil Cooper a further opportunity to show his versatility, and he gave a couple of fine displays in the No. 5 shirt. He got support in the Morton game from John Docherty, who was getting his first chance as sweeper.
Duncan Davidson, a first team substitute in recent weeks, was back with us against Morton and confirmed his place as our leading scorer with two goals, but then marred his performance by being sent off for retaliation. Ian Wilson did well in his outing against Morton, but ran out of steam and was replaced by Doug Rougvie when things began to get a bit tough for the 10-man home side.
