LAST SATURDAY'S 4-0 home victory over Airdrie A put the young Dons into joint second place in the Reserve League table behind the clear leaders, Partick Thistle A who were soundly beaten at Pittodrie last month.
Airdrie sent a young team north last week and they were no match for the young Dons in the first half. Goals by George Buchan and Barrie Mitchell and an own-goal counter put us three up at half-time and finished the match as a contest. The game just went flat after the interval and it was in an effort to liven up the proceedings that I sent on Ian Purdie for John Craig with 15 minutes to go. The young Dons did at last add to their total in the 80th minute with a goal by Billy William¬son.
I thought our defensive work was a bit sloppy, although Andy Geoghegan was again very alert in goal. Ian Hair had a good second half. Joe Smith again earned top marks for his midfield work and } was pleased with the performances of our three men up front. Bobby Street, Barrie Mitchell and Jim Forrest. Street worked hard without getting his name on the score sheet, while Mitchell was very good in the air. Forrest was full of running and his speed and shooting power were a constant threat to their defence.
