Aberdeen 0 - 0 Partick Thistle

THE TITLE-CHASING Celtic Reserves will be thirsting for revenge over the Young Dons at Parkhead today for they took a 6-3 beating when the teams met at Pittodrie last November. That was undoubtedly our best display of the season, a day when smart outfield play was capped with a bagful of goals.
The Pittodrie colts lost the route to goal again last Saturday when they drew 0-0 with Partick Thistle, but I was quite happy with the overall performance. Conditions were bad and, under the circumstances, the standard of play quite good. Our biggest failing was again a tendency to run 20 yards with the ball and pass it only five. We also continue to lack shooting power, with only Ian Purdie capable of testing the keeper. Jimmy Miller, who also packs a strong shot, has shaded off recently and young Ian Hair was often left to plough a lone furrow at centre forward. With little support he did well enough.
It's next season that we are looking for big things from Ian and also from Willie Miller, who has been a big success as a marksman for Peterhead In the Highland League. Andy Kerr has also been getting good reports with the Recreation Park club, and he was their hero last Saturday, scoring two late goals in the, Aberdeenshire Cup semi-final against Fraserburgh. Duncan Davidson, provisionally signed from Lewis United, showed good touches at right half early on, but the testing conditions sapped his strength and I sent Jimmy Smith on for him with 20 minutes to go. Jimmy stepped in at right back, releasing Billy Williamson to play a forcing role, but the switch failed to produce that all-important break-through.
Policeman Keith Davidson, who turned out in goal for us against Deveronvale, gave another competent display and, while on the subject of goalkeepers, I would like to mention that young Jim George, who has been farmed out to Newton Rangers, has been coming on impressively in practice matches John Craig gave another immaculate, skilful display at left back against Partick.
