This game was brought forward from the 16th April as our first team play at home to Partick Thistle on that date. We were strengthened for this game by the inclusion of four members of the first team pool, and they played their part in helping us to a fine 4 - 1 victory. Duncan Davidson was our goal scoring hero, netting a hat-trick, with John McMaster getting the other.
Jim Shirra and Joe Smith played the first half and they played well. Joe's accurate passing was one of the features of a good first half display. Both players were replaced by young Alex McLeish and Ian Gibson. Eddie Thomson making one of his rare appearances for the reserves turned in a competent display at right back and his experience was a big help to young Alan Duguid playing his first full game for us. Alan did very well and looks as if he will be an asset to us in the future. Dave Robb did a good job for us up front and his linking up with Davidson and McMaster caused Tommy Gemmell and his defenders a lot of problems. Dundee's substitute John Cord had the satisfaction of scoring one of the best goals seen at Pittodrie when his shot from 25 yds screamed in to the back of the net before Ally McLean could move.
