Aberdeen's Gamble

The slippery, frost-bound ground at Fir Park, Motherwell, interfered considerably with the quality of the play in the match between the Lanarkshire club and Aberdeen. Motherwell took more risks, and for the greater part of the first half were the more prominent side, but their finishing was rather poor. McNeil of Chelsea, appeared in the Motherwell attack, and made a good impression by his clever work on the left wing. Archibald headed the first goal for Motherwell in the first half. Early in the second Archibald equalised for Aberdeen, and Main gave the northern team the lead but from a penalty Waugh again equalised, and the game, which was not a very high-class one, ended in a draw of 2 goals each. There was an attendance of about 3000 spectators.

In the match between Motherwell and Aberdeen at Motherwell, the home team showed up well during the first period, and at half-time lead by one goal to nil. The work of the Aberdeen forwards was not cohesive. Aberdeen's goal had many narrow escapes. Although the inferior side, the Pittodrie players put up a fine defence. The backs and half-backs work very hard, and it was owing to their efforts that the score was not hired at the interval.

The second half was not long started when Aberdeen obtained the equaliser through Archibald as the result of a judicious pass by Wyllie. Fifteen minutes from time Aberdeen took the lead, Main scoring a beautiful goal. It looked as if the visitors were to win, but close on time Motherwell were awarded a penalty from which Waugh equalised.
