Aberdeen kicked of their pre season schedule at Elgin with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Hicham Zerouali returned to action after missing most of last season and new signing, Roberto Bisconti also started the match. Ex-Don, Theo Snelders was in the crowd to watch the match.
The Dons dominated the first half and they went close in the 10th minute when a Bisconti free kick was volleyed wide of the target by Robbie Winters. Both Winters and Zerouali had efforts deflected wide as the Dons looked for an opening. The Dons finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute and it was new boy Bisconti who got it. A corner for the visitors saw the ball break to the Belgian on the edge of the area and he fired home a fine drive from 20 yards. McAllister had a long range effort saved on the half hour mark and chances for Mackie and McNaughton were also foiled as the home side held out to the break.
Skovdhal replaced Bisconti and Zerouali at half time and the Dons seemed to lose their shape as a scrappy second half ensued. The Dons had a golden opportunity to extend their lead in the 62nd minute after Winters was tripped inside the penalty area. He stood up, dusted himself down and then saw his effort saved by Walker. Winters missed another good chance five minutes later, but he finally found the target with three minutes remaining. He was sent clear on the left, calmly rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the empty net. Next Stop, Denmark.
