It was a less happy story from the re-arranged Premier Reserve League game at Paisley, the young Dons going down 2-0, with former Pittodrie favourite Peter Weir opening Saints' account from the penalty spot. Teddy regarded this as a rather unfortunate defeat as the Aberdeen team, benefitting from the influence of Willie Miller, who was making a comeback after injury, produced some excellent football in a goal-less first half, but did not take the chances they created. Miller played for only the opening 45 minutes and he was missed after the interval when Saints scored twice and Aberdeen failed with a penalty. In the absence of regular penalty-taker Andy Gibson, who had been replaced earlier, Andy McLeod took the spot kick, but his effort was saved by Les Fridge.
One of the redeeming features of the Paisley game was the good form shown by central defender Brian Lithgow, who is continuing to perform impressively despite being a part-timer.
