Signs are now Promising

The young Dons managed to halt recent defeats with a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Andy Roddie's dislocated shoulder made him an absentee but the team was strengthened by the inclusion of Eoin Jess and Ian Cameron from the senior squad.
Aberdeen had the better clear-cut chances in the first half, being right through on the Perth 'keeper four times without managing to score and having definite territorial advantage.
After a score-less first half the young Dons kept up the pressure at the start of the second period and were rewarded with a good goal scored after only ten minutes play. Andy Gibson struck home a strong shot from an accurate cross by Colin Milne. St Johnstone equalised from the penaly spot five minutes later. From that point Saints dominated the play and Michael Watt made two excellent saves late in the match.
A disappointing feature, particularly in the second half, was the lack of determination and commitment shown by too many Aberdeen players. The one notable exception was Kenny Gilbert who displayed character and pluck throughout the match in his first game as a left back.
