Bob joined the army at 14 and served five years in the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders then transferred to the RAF from March 1939 to March 1946 as an aircraft engine fitter, but managed to make a guest appearance for Aberdeen in season 1941-42. He became a professional with Aberdeen, playing for the reserves, where his nickname was Cannonball. Emigrated to Canada in 1951, where he played as an amateur and coach in Winnipeg. died in Ottawa in January 2014.
