Mortensen came to the Dons in season 1942-1943, whilst serving with the RAF in the north east. From the start he had praise heaped upon him as a brilliant player and a major contributor to Aberdeen's success at that time.
Aberdeen lost his services for a time, in April 1943, when he was hospitalised after suffering an accident with the RAF.
