A shipyard worker, boilermaker, at the time of signing, Young was a product of Blantyre Vics, with whom he was captain and won a Junior Cup medal. He proved to be an inspirational centre half for the Dons, and part of the much-vaunted Allister, Young and Glen half back line that was the sound basis of the Dons success in the 50's. Renowned for his legendary sliding tackle, Young left the Dons in 1958, after a series of injuries had taken its toll. After leaving Pittodrie, Alec joined Highland League side Ross County, serving as player managed from 1958 to 1964. In 2003 he was inducted into the Aberdeen Hall of Fame. Died - Fortrose, 2nd March 2010
