Aberdeen are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has this evening joined the club on loan for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

The 20 year old was this evening on the bench for Newcastle United in their Premiership game against Burnley. All the paperwork was completed between the two clubs after the match and Freddie will now travel north tomorrow to meet up with his new team mates.

Woodman, originally from London, started his career at Crystal Palace before moving to the Newcastle United Youth Academy in 2013.

The very highly regarded keeper has represented England at every age grade up to U21 level. He was part of the team that won the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and last summer starred for his country when they triumphed at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Freddie has enjoyed spells on loan at Hartlepool United, Crawley Town and last January joined fellow SPFL Premiership side Kilmarnock. He made 15 appearances for the Ayrshire side, claiming five cleansheets.

Derek McInnes told afc.co.uk:

"He's a fantastic young talent.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him. I was really impressed with him last season.

"I thought he got better and better at Kilmarnock. There were lots of clubs in for Freddie but his commitment and word to us meant a lot and we're looking forward to getting him with us."

The keeper has been allocated squad number 30.

Everyone at Pittodrie would like to welcome Freddie to the club and wish him all the very best during his stay in the North East of Scotland."

Freddie's time at Pittodrie was short, but he played a vital part in helping the Dons progress in the Cup with two penalty saves in a shoot-out against Kilmarnock.
