Dons Sign a Brilliant 'Keeper

JOHN CURRAN, Queen's Park goalkeeper, has signed professional forms for Aberdeen F.C.
Mr Halliday, the Pittodrie manager, beat Wolves, Arsenal and Burnley for the signature of this brilliant amateur 'keeper.
Twenty-three years of age, Curran came into the Hampden team as deputy to Ronnie Simpson early in March. He gave a splendid display against the Dons in the League and retained his place.
Curran, who weighs 11st 3lb, and stands 5ft llin in height, joined Queen's Park from Strathclyde in 1945.

Johnny arrived at Pittodrie with a good reputaion and with a string of confident performances in the reserve team he pushed himself forward for a crack at first team football. He was in competion with Frank Watson, who at 19 and still in the Army, was also making a strong impression for the Dons. However, it was Curran who unseated George Johnstone in the latter three months of season 1948-49 and well into the following season.
Coming up on the rails, though, was forward turned goalkeeper Fred Martin, and it was Fred who would eventually win the race for the long term tenure of the number one spot.
