Richard started his football career with HJK Helsinki, but moved to FC Twente’s Academy in 2012, aged just sixteen.
He signed a professional contract a year later, playing regularly for Jong Twente in the Tweede Divisie, before making his Eredivise debut for the first-team in January 2018 against Roda.
Later that year, he would join Roda, establishing himself as a regular for De Koempels over the next four seasons. He made 89 appearances for the Parkstad Limburg Stadion side, scoring seven times.
Having captained the Finnish U21 side for numerous years, Richard made his senior debut in a UEFA Nations League qualification game in Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium against Montenegro.
The 27-year-old subsequently went on to win eight more caps in the last fourteen months.
He moved to Górnik Zabrze in the summer of 2022, and made 36 appearances for the first team, scoring once, helping the side to finish sixth in the Ekstraklasa in season 2022-2023.
On 23rd August 2023 it was announced that he had joined the Dons on a three-year contract. In that first season he wasa regular starter, but in the early stages of 2024-2025 he was mainly confined to the bench therefore the Club announced on 23rd August that he had joined Danish Superliga side Vejle Boldklub on loan for the remainder of the season.
