One of Mark McGhee's most successful signings, Vernon brought a goal threat to the Dons that had been missing for some time. Because of injury problems to the squad in season 2012-13, Scott was regularly asked to play in midfield rather than up front, thus losing his goalscoring edge but doing his best for the team in difficult circumstances. Was part of the League Cup winning team in 2014, having played a significant part in the run to the final.
After leaving Pittodrie at the end of season 2013-14, Scott joine Shrewsbury Town, moving to Grimsby Town two seasons later. In 2018 he signed up with Cleethorpes Town where he was a prolific goalscorer. He remained until 2022 when on the 16th of May he announced his retirment from the professional game.
